Unrealism cannot end at the boundary of the observer. If reality is coherent relational determination rather than a warehouse of independently completed objects, then cosmology must be restated in the same terms. The universe is not first a container, later populated by matter, later crossed by signals, and finally inspected by minds. Matter, signal, distance, duration and observation are different resolutions of one relational structure.

From object cosmology to information cosmology

Object cosmology begins with things and asks how they move. Information Cosmology begins with distinguishability and asks how a difference becomes available elsewhere without losing the structure that makes it the same difference. The first picture takes identity for granted. The second makes identity, transmission and record part of the problem.

Information here is not a message written in a secret cosmic language. It is structured difference: whatever can constrain a later relation because one state is distinguishable from another. Information is therefore neither merely mental nor merely material. It is the relational form through which the distinction between mental and material can become determinate.

The star as a conversion of matter into information

A star binds matter into a stable process, transforms that matter through fusion, and releases the difference as radiation. What radiates is not a miniature portion of the star travelling outward as a self-contained object. The star converts organized matter back into available information: frequency, energy, direction, polarization, timing and the spectral marks of the processes that produced it.

Light is the name given to that information when the relation between emission and reception becomes physically resolvable. The radiation carries the star’s capacity to make a difference elsewhere. A detector can register it, an atmosphere can scatter it, a molecule can absorb it, and an eye can render it as colour. Each event is a new determination of the same relational history.

Traversal is a relation, not a bead in flight

The familiar model pictures a photon as a tiny bead leaving an object, crossing an already completed emptiness, and eventually striking another object. That model is useful inside a frame, but it cannot be the final ontology. It presupposes the independent reality of emitter, receiver, interval, clock and trajectory—the very relations it claims merely to describe.

In the relational account, emission and reception are poles of a single informational connection. The connection is not assembled after the fact from two unrelated events. The received event is what qualifies the emission as this emission across this interval. What appears locally as propagation is the ordered resolution of that relation within spacetime.

Why light has already arrived

From the standpoint of a massive observer, light crosses distance and requires time. From the null structure of the lightlike relation itself, no proper time accumulates between emission and reception. The relation is complete without containing an internal succession in which light waits to arrive. “Already arrived” names this absence of proper duration; it does not deny the measured delay inside the observer’s frame.

This is why the constant c is deeper than the ordinary speed of an object. It is the invariant conversion between spatial and temporal separation that preserves the lightlike relation across frames. Observers disagree about distance and elapsed time while retaining the same spacetime interval. The constant belongs to the architecture by which information can connect separated events coherently.

Pre-causal structure

Causality cannot be the first layer of the account because a cause already requires distinguishable events, an order between them, and a rule by which one event constrains another. Coherence is pre-causal in this logical sense: not earlier in time, but required before temporal order can count as a causal order.

Informational traversal is therefore non-linear at the ontological level even when it is linear in a local history. The emission does not contain a complete independent future and push it forward one instant at a time. The full relation constrains what can consistently count as emission, path, reception and record. Local causal succession is the rendered order of a globally coherent connection.

Reception creates record

Reception is not passive copying. A detector changes state. A retina initiates a neural cascade. A photographic plate darkens. Matter takes on a new configuration that refers, through its causal-relational history, to a distant event. Information becomes record when a difference is retained strongly enough to constrain what can happen or be known next. In this sense, information is not a ghostly substance traveling from a completed past: it is the record a changing present produces relative to a field of observation.

No human witness is required for this registration. An observer is any organized locus at which alternatives become different outcomes. Human experience is a rich instance of such resolution, not a supernatural interruption of physical law.

The extensible universe

A universe containing accumulated history must remain capable of retaining new distinctions. Every actual event adds relational commitments: what occurred, where it can be addressed from, what it affected and which later records can refer to it. Reality cannot remain a fixed catalogue while genuine history continues to be written.

Spacetime can therefore be understood as an extensible address structure. Its expansion is not merely more empty room appearing between objects. It is the continuing capacity of the world to differentiate and retain its own history without collapsing new events into old ones. Cosmic extension and informational retention are two views of the same requirement: a growing relational history needs an addressable form.

Matter as retained information

Matter and information are not opposing substances. Matter is information held in recurrent organization; radiation is information made available for new relations. Stars expose the circulation between them. Stable structure becomes radiative difference, radiative difference produces records, and records enter the material history that later structures inherit.

The universe is consequently neither pure object nor pure idea. It is the ongoing conversion between possibility, determination, transmission and retention. A thing is a durable knot in that process. Light is the opening of a relation. An event is its resolution. History is the structure that remains.

The cosmological synthesis

Realism correctly measures light’s travel, predicts stellar processes and maps the expanding universe. Idealism correctly insists that every such world is available only through structured presentation. Unrealism joins them: the measurable cosmos is real as a coherent network of relations, while no model of that network becomes a perspective-free object standing outside every act of modelling.

Information Cosmology is therefore not an optional application attached to the ontology. It is what the ontology becomes at cosmic scale. Coherence supplies possible relation; a star converts stable matter into transmissible difference; light establishes the invariant connection; reception resolves it; record retains it; spacetime addresses it; and cosmic extension preserves the continuing growth of history.
